A little poetry news… The Texas Poetry Journal List has been updated. In the next two days, the listserv for the international slam poetry community will become operational on our server, joining the Texas Poetry Listserv. We’ll post a note here and the full sign up details will be posted in the Word’s website on this server. The next issue of the Word should be posted Wednesday with exclusive online coverage of the 1998 National Slam. We won’t fill this space with the details, but last week Texas played host to two big poetry events. August 16, Dallas hosted an invitational poetry slam that featured eight teams from across the country. August 19-22, Austin hosted the National Poetry Slam. The finals in both events were packed. If you don’t want to wait for the coverage in the Word, you can check out articles in the Boston Globe and the Dallas Morning News. For those not interested in poetry, you might find the thong underware reference included in one of the pieces interesting. Hint, the offending poet is Austin’s Karyna McGlynn.
